Trigger Point Dry Needling

Trigger point dry needling (TDN) involves multiple advances of a filament needle into the muscle in the region of a “Trigger Point’. The aim of Dry Needling is to achieve a local twitch response to release muscle tension and pain. Dry needling is an effective treatment for chronic pain of neuropathic origin with very few side effects.

TDN is not acupuncture.

With TDN we are focusing on releasing the tension within the muscle, fascia, tendons, and sometimes aimed at bones and ligaments to facilitate healing. The needles are generally inserted deeper into tissue than an acupuncture session, sometimes we leave the needles in place for a short time, add electrical stimulation or a pistoning motion to get the tissue to release. It is generally more painful as the local twitch response generates a twitching or a crampy feel in the muscle tissue.  It often offers relief that has been unable to be achieved by other treatments.

It is a beneficial treatment for:

  • knots in muscles
  • overuse injuries
  • postural imbalances
  • sports injuries
  • tendonopathies
  • muscle strains
  • plantarfasciitis
  • headaches
  • TMJ disorder
  • back pain
  • and so much more.
