Visceral Manipulation

Viscera refers to internal organs of the body, such as the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, bladder and intestines.  With visceral work we listen for and feel for altered or decreased motion within the viscera, as well as restrictive patterns throughout the body which are related to the organs.  Often traumas and emotions are stored in our organs which can lead to dysfunction in the organs themselves and in turn can affect the surrounding musculoskeletal system, making it seem as if the root cause of the pain is joint or muscular in nature when infact it is an organ.

Visceral work is primarily gentle, yet can feel very intense at times.  It is especially helpful for those with unexplained abdominal pain, digestive disorders, whiplash injuries, traumatic injuries, and chronic pain.  VM is also beneficial for women’s and men’s issues like pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, menopausal symptoms, prostate dysfunction, and testicular pain.
