Visceral Manipulation

With visceral manipulation, we listen for and feel altered or decreased motion within the organs, as well as restrictive patterns throughout the body which are related to them.  Our aim is to restore the body’s innate capacity for healing.

Physical traumas and emotions can become stored in the body which can lead to decreased function of the visceral organs themselves. And in turn, the dysfunction can affect the surrounding musculoskeletal system. This can make it seem as if the root cause of the pain is joint or muscular in nature when in fact it is an organ.

Viscera refers to internal organs of the body, such as the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, bladder, and intestines.

Visceral manipulation is primarily a gentle hands-on technique. Sometimes it may feel more intense, depending on several factors. Your therapist, however, will always check with you to make sure you are comfortable during your session.

Visceral manipulation is especially helpful for those with

  • Unexplained abdominal pain
  • Digestive disorders
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Traumatic injuries
  • Chronic pain
  • Pelvic pain /dysmenorrhea
  • Menopausal/perimenopausal symptoms
  • Prostate dysfunction / testicular pain
